Dr. Andrick
Weigh to Wellness Denver is the medical practice of Dr. Rebecca Andrick. She is committed to providing nutrition, fitness and weight management services to individuals, families and children. By developing nutrition and/or weight management plans for each individual, we will be able to give them all necessary tools and support to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.


Achieving and Maintaining a Healthy Body Weight

This is universally a life long process and it is not easy for any of us. However, it is vital to the health of the one body you have.

Several factors play into becoming overweight. These include:
- Individual genetics and therefore unique physiology
- Dietary habits and time spent being physically active
- Psychological, cultural or other social factors
- Living in an obesigenic society

This is why it is not only challenging to take off weight but often even more so to keep it off. Many people have tried multiple diets with some success only to then put it back on causing a "yo-yo" effect. This is frustrating and can cause people to give up.

How will Dr. Andrick help me do this differently?

  1. ASSESSING READINESS FOR CHANGE
    If you are reading this, you are right now taking a step towards making a change by exploring one way of approaching change. Developing your own motivation and therefore commitment to change is a process. Often you start with thinking about change, then planning for change and then taking active steps to implement your desired change.

    If someone is not "ready" to make the changes in their life necessary for successful weight reduction, it may be best to wait until they are feeling life is more manageable and they are motivated to take action to change. Assess your own "Readiness for Change" here.

  2. EXPECTATIONS AND SETTING REASONABLE GOALS
    Losing just 10% of your body weight can make a big difference in lowering your risk of developing weight related diseases such as high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, cholesterol abnormalities and potentially heart or vascular disease. You may want to lose more than 10%, but attaining a goal of just 10% of body weight will increase your motivation, self esteem and mental wellbeing.

  3. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY- CAN RELIEVE STRESS AND MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD!
    Simply starting with a walk twice a week for 15 minutes may be a good place to begin. A gradual increase in frequency, duration and exertion level can help make exercise enjoyable and doable. At Weigh to Wellness, we are committed to helping you discover the activities you love to do and turning them into a lifetime of physical activity that improves health, energy and quality of life.

  4. INDIVIDUALIZATION
    Each person is unique and assessing each individual's metabolic status can make the weight reduction process easier. We use an indirect calorimeter to measure a person's resting metabolic rate. In other words, how many calories one's body burns in 24 hours just to keep their vital organs alive. This helps determine an individual's daily caloric needs and assists with planning for weight reduction.

    Dr. Andrick understands the complexity of obesity and its related diseases. As a physician, she can order tests if needed and prescribe medications when indicated. Her goal is to work with you and your primary health care provider to improve your nutrition, cardiovascular health and emotional well being thru weight management.

  5. FAMILY FIT-WE SEE KIDS!
    Children receive medical evaluation and age appropriate nutrition education. Family support is key to weight reduction in kids. Our goal is to help families learn together ways to be active, make healthful food choices and help their child achieve a healthy weight and have fun doing it!
